| Antioxidants |
| These
are present in components of PSA's to improve weathering, thermal and light
sensitivity. Their role is to delay oxidative reactions. |
|
| Bar
Code |
| It
is a printed design or code that represents a vast amount of information
which can be reproduced and read by electronic sensors. Denoting the code
is the thickness of the solid bars and the unprinted space between each
bar. |
|
| Bearers |
| The
part of a rotary cutter is designed to support the cutter against the anvil
and provide sufficient space between the peak of the cutting edge and the
surface of the anvil to ensure adequate penetration of the cutter. |
|
| Creep |
| The
pressure sensitive adhesive must exhibit an elastic cohesiveness and resistance
to flow under stress. It is this resistance to flow that is commonly associated
with creep or resistance to creep, but in broader sense the entire stress-strain
behaviors of a pressure sensitive adhesive can be treated as a creep phenomenon. |
|
| Dielectric
Strength |
| The
value that gives the user an indication of the stability of pressure sensitive
adhesive tape in strong electric fields. It is the quotient of breakdown
voltage and the thickness of the tape being tested. |
|
| Densitometer |
| A
device sensitive to the amount of light transmitted or reflected by paper
or film substrate. It is used to check the accuracy and consistency of color
output. |
|
| Edge
Guide |
| An
electronic device which checks on the position of the web edge during the
run and may also actuate the means to correct any deviation. |
|
| Edge
Trim |
| The
two extreme edges of the reel which may be removed after printing and prior
to rewinding. |
|
| Four
Color Process Printing |
| The
process of reproducing color graphics using cyan, magenta, yellow and black
to replicate the colors produced in a photographic original. |
|
| Heat
Activated |
| A
coating of adhesive which is dry to the touch until activated by the application
of heat through the thickness of the coated substrate. |
|
| High-end
Technology |
| Electronic
reproduction technology that is sophisticated and produces an accurate representation
of the original. |
|
| Hot
Melt |
| A
100% solids adhesive supplied in dry form, melts at between 65 and 180 degrees
C, dries at room temperature leaving a tacky surface that is pressure sensitive.
Permanent, peelable and other formulations are available. |
|
| Kilobyte
(K) |
| 1024
bytes of digital information. |
|
| Kiss
Cutting |
| The
partial cutting through of a laminate leaving the carrier layer intact. |
|
| Migration |
| The
movement of adhesive, ink or coloring through from the side to which it
has been applied through to the reverse side of a face material. A phenomenon
controlled by application of a protective coating to the reverse side of
the face material. |
|
| Peel
Adhesion |
| The
tensional force required to remove an adhesive tape is an evaluation of
peel adhesion which is an important characteristic of pressure sensitive
adhesives. |
|
| Plasticizers |
| The
functions they perform on thermoplastic rubber based adhesives include decrease
in hardness and modules at room temperature, eliminate drawing, enhance
pressure sensitive tack, reduce melt and solution viscosity and decrease
cohesive property or increase plasticity. |
|
| Rasterization |
| The
conversion of image data into a pattern of dots usually performed by an
imagesetter for the production of a negative or positive image on paper
or film. |
|
| Registration |
| The
location and maintaining in position of the various elements of a printed
design or other conversion sequence. |
|
| Removable
Adhesive |
| These
are adhesives that display a low peel force and give clean deposit free
separation from the substate. Removable adhesive joints can be destroyed
without destroying the solid state components of the joints. |
|
| Step
& Repeat |
| The
action of reproducing a number of images onto film and subsequently plate,
permitting it to be printed more than one at a time thus speeding up production
by reducing press running time. |
|
| Tack |
| Pressure
sensitive tack is the adhesive property related to bond formation and enables
the adhesive to form a bond with the surface of another material upon brief
contact under light pressure. |
|
| Tackifiers |
| These
are raw materials used in pressure sensitive adhesives that apart from improving
tack impart changes to the adhesive properties, they improve peel resistance
and decrease the shear resistance(cohesion). |
|
| Tensile
Strength |
| The
strength of a 2.5cm (1 in.) wide sample about 10cm long pulled apart on
a pendulum tensile tester at 30 cm./min (12 in./min.) |
|
| Undercut |
| The
term used to identify when photopolymer printing plates or steel die plates
have been etched or washed away to a point when the bevels or the relief
image has been partially worn away below the printing or cutting peak. |
|
| Viscosity |
| The
measure of the thickness of an ink particularly flexo inks. The viscosity
is measured by recording the time it takes for a given amount of ink to
pass through a regulating hole. |

| Introduction |
|
PressureSensitiveMaterial.com
is the maiden venture of Weldon I.T., the Information Technology division
of Weldon Celloplast Limited. The site is setup to provide a promotional
and interactive forum for the complete self adhesive products industry
i.e., Buyers, Sellers, Equipments, Suppliers etc., will be listed at affordable
prices. Besides providing a database of listed members the site would
have industry related news, calendar of events, offers to buy, offers
to sell, publications and link to association etc. Members would be allowed
to post offers to buy or to sell. The basic idea of the site is to promote
the growth of the self adhesive industry.
|
|
| Buyers |
| As
Buyers or users of self adhesive products you could list on the site to
continuously receive information from prospective vendors. Manufacturers
of self adhesive products wishing to offer new and innovative developments
will not have difficulty in making contacts. A cosmetic manufacturer may
list to attract offers from label manufacturers, an automobile manufacturer
may list to attract vendors of self adhesive foam parts, double sided tape,
emblems etc., a hygiene products manufacturers may list to attract suppliers
of silicon release liners. A hospital may list to contact vendors of surgical
tapes, band-aid, self-adhesive electrodes, etc. and the list of buyers could
go on. |
|
| Sellers |
| Sellers
listed on site could be suppliers or manufacturers of papers, films, chemicals,
adhesive, self adhesive labels, foam products, tapes, computer labels, emblems,
holograms, protection films, etc. Also listed on site will be offset printers,
narrow web label printers, screen printers, machinery suppliers, testing
equipment manufacturers etc. Infact anybody supplying self adhesive products
or supplying to the self adhesive products industry would find the site
useful to list on. |
|
| Buyers
offer/Sellers offer |
| Only
listed members would be able to post offers to buy or offers to sell. These
could either be for their finished products or inputs related to the industry.
Larger corporate buyers & MNC's not listed and wanting to post offers
may send their offers for consideration of free posting. |
